Baby Blake | Using Shadows in Newborn Portraits

Low Key Light Newborn Photography

Using Shadows in Newborn Portraits:  Baby Blake visited us in studio a few weeks ago. He actually came in twice- first as our workshop model, and then again the next day with his family (and amazingly loving big sisters).

I wanted to briefly write about using shadows in newborn portraits. At our last weekend newborn workshop, we taught the attendees how to pose baby, get a shot, and then change nothing, but your camera angle to get a much more shadowed image. I love the depth, and the mood change.  In my opinion, the focus is more on baby in these images rather than the prop. It’s also about maximizing your angles, so as not to disturb babe. We then went through using a macro lens to get even closer angles, and once again, to limit disturbing your little subject. If you would like to learn with us, our next workshop is in October. You can read more information here. ~M
