Is your 4-6 week old baby too old for newborn photos? Short answer? Not at all! You’re still right on time.
Maxine & Shellaine are both moms too, and understand how overwhelming those first few weeks can be. Between healing, sleepless nights, and settling into your new rhythm, it’s completely normal for photo sessions to take a back seat. But here’s the good news: while we do recommend scheduling your newborn session within the first 21 days if possible, we photograph babies up to 6 weeks old as newborns — and those sessions can be just as beautiful.

Why the First 3 Weeks Are Ideal — But Not Essential
In the first few weeks, babies are usually sleepier, smaller, and more naturally curled up — which makes posing a little easier and allows us to get those dreamy, snuggly images many parents love. That’s why it’s often considered the “sweet spot.”
But every baby is different — and every stage has its magic. A one-month-old might be more alert, a little chubbier, and full of personality. With a flexible, baby-led approach (and some serious baby whispering on our end!), we’re able to capture timeless images no matter your baby’s age.
What to Expect at 4–6 Weeks
If your baby is between 4 and 6 weeks old, here’s what we typically adjust:
- Poses: We may do more wrapped or semi-wrapped setups, depending on baby’s flexibility and comfort.
- Awake Shots: Older newborns may give us more eye contact, which can add gorgeous variety to your gallery.
- Session Flow: Sessions might take a little more patience, but that’s never a problem — we take the time your baby needs.

And don’t worry — we still aim to get those soft, sleepy poses when we can. With our calming environment and baby-soothing tricks, many older babies still drift right off to sleep during the session.
So… Is One Month Too Late?
Nope! You’re still in the window, and we’d love to capture this fleeting stage for you. Whether your baby is 7 days or 6 weeks old, they are still your newborn — and these early memories deserve to be preserved. While there may be some shots we are unable to do with older babies, we will still capture beautiful images. We also send a full prep guide once you book, to ensure the smoothest session possible.

Don’t hesitate to reach out. We’ll guide you through every step, and together we’ll create something beautiful for your family to cherish forever.
