It is that time of year again! The time when the trees flower, and spring finally arrives. It is time for Cherry blossom photos in Edmonton! Photographing this family during the short blossom season was a joy. This is the third year that I have done spring family photos for this family. We wanted a unique location. I sent the client options, and she chose this beautiful spot, and I am so glad that she did!

Cherry blossom season is short

The season of the cherry blossoms in Edmonton is short, but gorgeous while it lasts. We only get 7-10 days of these flowers in Edmonton. Generally the time frame is the last week of May. Timing does depend on how long winter drags. The season can arrive a little sooner or later. It can be tricky to time. We also shoot cherry blossom photos in Edmonton a little later in the evening in May and June, as the days are quite long, and we want to get that beautiful light near sunset. This can be a challenge for families with younger children. It was no problem for this family though, having teenagers, rather than toddlers! 

Wardrobe and poses

For wardrobe they chose a neutral palette. These colours look great in any location, but especially in front of these blooming trees. I always aim to shoot a variety of poses. Family portraits, sibling shots together and separate and also couple pictures. As parents we know ow hard it can be to get a picture with our partners, as one of us is always holding the camera! We also did mother and daughter portraits, and father and son.
